INSNET, Spring 1998

Recently we sent shipments to programs in Costa Rica and Uganda. Once we update our inventory, which should take a bit of time given the volume of books we have received, we plan to donate to two programs located in Eastern Europe. Fortunately we now have an undergraduate psychology student, Marilyn Ayala, who is helping with this project part-time.

We have been very fortunate to add another Regional Coordinator to our roster of INS volunteers. Dr. Patricia Wyckoff of Mansfield, MA has agreed to be our coordinator in the northeast. The reason this program has been successful is due to the efforts of volunteers like Dr. Wyckoff. We are always looking for more Regional Coordinators, particularly in the Midwest, West and Canada. If you are interested in helping this project, please contact Dr. Bernice Marcopulos.

We would like to acknowledge the following generous individuals to who made donations this quarter:

Arlene and Meryl Butters and Family, Richard Berg, Susan Colligan, Ph.D. Richard Kaplan, Ph.D.

Please send your donations of books and journals, no older than 10 or 15 years to:

Patricia Wyckoff, Ph.D.

ILC ON THE GO

A Report from the Chair

The past year has seen an exciting increase in International Liaison Committee (ILC) program activity. We continue to receive correspondence from colleagues around the world, many of whom indicate that they have learned about INS and the ILC either through a copy of INSNET given to them by a colleague, or through mailings sent to their societies by ILC representatives. Many thanks to Lloyd Cripe, the Editor of INSNET, for producing such a fine vehicle for global communication. In addition, our overseas ILC members, Irene Taussik, Andrei Duinbrava, and Donald Yeo deserve our appreciation for their tireless liaising efforts in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia respectively. Committee member Debora Scheffel recently researched funding options for those interested in obtaining additional training in Neuropsychology in North America. We thank Dr. Scheffel for her excellent work on this database. Under the exceptional leadership) of Bernice Marcopolus, the Book and Journal Depository continues to thrive. Our appreciation goes out to her, as well as to the many individuals who have sent donations.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The ILC remains committed to facilitating global communication among neuropscyhologists and to minimizing existing barriers to full participation by colleagues in professional, research, and training activities. To this end, the Committee sponsors the programs described below. We welcome the efforts and enthusiasm of others who are similarly committed to these goals. For information, applications, or to contribute your talents and ideas to any of these programs, please contact the committee members.

Institutional Affiliation - Institutions and Societies demonstrating need can apply to be affiliates of the International Neuropsychological Society at a reduced rate.

Language Editing - The ILC maintains a list of volunteers (native English speakers) who are interested in assisting overseas colleagues with English language editing. Anyone for whom English is not a first language, and who wishes to publish a manuscript in English, can obtain this service. We would like to expand English language editing services to include a list of editors interested in assisting overseas colleagues earlier in the process of manuscript preparation (at the writing stage), thus collaborating as co- authors. Those interested in volunteering, contact L. Artiola.

Language Consulting - The ILC maintains a list of bilingual volunteers who offer consulting services to overseas colleagues engaged in research with cross- cultural populations.

Book & Journal Depository - Institutions demonstrating need can apply for a shipment of donated books and joumals. (Contact B. Marcopulos.)

Host Training Program Database - Those who wish to obtain additional training in neuropsychology at a North American training program can request a list of training sites which accept applications from overseas colleagues.

Funding Sources Database - Those who wish to obtain additional neuropsychological education or training and who are seeking financial assistance, can request a list of possible funding sources.

Subsidized Journal Subscriptions - Institutions demonstrating need can apply for a subsidized subscription to the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society.

Travel Scholarships - Colleagues traveling from a developing region to an INS meeting are encouraged to apply for a Travel Scholarship. Those individuals whose work has been accepted for presentation at the meeting will be given priority.

INSNET - The newsletter of the INS International Liaison Committee is produced twice annually and serves as a vehicle for global communication among colleagues with an interest in neuropsychology. (L. Cripe)
